TwoGolfGuys Announce First Grow the Game Scholarship Winner
The Grow the Game Scholarship was created to support students who make active efforts to grow the game of golf, pursue golf-related careers, play golf competitively, and are active in the golf community via education, charity, or employment at a golf-related facility.
The winner of the 1st annual Two Golf Guys Grow the Game Scholarship is Skyler Hong, a student at Arizona State University.
Skyler stood out from the hundreds of excellent applications through his unique story, genuine commitment to helping golfers get better, and his resilience in the face of various challenges. His career as a professional golfer included several years of grinding at Q-School and a year on the PGA Tour China before deciding that playing professionally wasn’t the path for him.
When Skyler decided not to pursue a career as professional golfer on the PGA Tour, he didn’t become bitter. Instead, Skyler decided to take a different approach to handling adversity – a lesson he learned watching other players who washed out of professional golf.
“I have come across quite a few washed-out/has been players who were constantly complaining and whining how their lives didn’t turn out the way they prophesied and the last thing I wanted to be was to be like them” said Skyler Hong.
Skyler committed to giving back to the sport of golf while pursuing other career goals. He’s now studying Bio-Chemistry at Arizona State University with the goal of becoming a Dentist. In between chemistry classes, Skyler volunteered at two different elementary schools to introduce students to the game with a focus on enjoyment and etiquette. “Nothing makes me more proud when the more experienced kids turn to the beginners and explain the rules and the etiquette as well as why it is so important” said Skyler.

We’re proud to support Skyler in his commitment to golf and his future career in dentistry. The lessons in life that golf teaches us are sure to help him succeed.
